NeuterSooner was organized by Anita Stepp, Rita Harvey and Mark Stepp to address the never-ending flow of pets being surrendered to the local animal shelters. They soon expanded their Board of Directors to include Bob Paris, Jody Simpson and Jennifer Bell. NeuterSooner has spay/neuter vouchers available for families with incomes less than $35,000. Cost for the vouchers is based on family income. NeuterSooner has partnered with five regional veterinary clinics to provide spay/neuter services. To purchase vouchers call (918) 332-6341.
A few quotes regarding the importance of spay/neuter:
Christy Counts, President of Central Oklahoma Humane Society, put it this way. "People think that if they find good homes for puppies their dog had, that that’s being responsible, but that’s not the case,” Counts said. "Those puppies have puppies, and then those puppies have puppies, and then some of those animals wind up getting euthanized.”
Ruth Steinberger, State Outreach Coordinator for the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals, uses a simple quote to explain why spay/neuter is the answer: “If your water pipes break and your basement is flooded, which do you do first, start bailing or turn off the water? ---Neuter Your Pets!”
